MODERN TEXTILE QUILTER
Whether I'm hosting one or taking part in one, a workshop is a safe place for opportunity, expression and freedom, a chance to share with a like-minded community.
A simple project or subject usually forms the platform for the storytelling, but what follows will be a very personal adaptation of the same theme.
With the structure of the original guidelines and a banter with a new community, you will find bravery amongst your choices.
Workshops are brilliant for rule breaking, and will liberate even the most traditional of thinkers, exposing and inviting them to a brave new world with a willingness and enthusiasm to keep an open mind.
I will be announcing timings of each workshop shortly - please email Jo@SewJo.co.uk with your preference.

Blockbusters
A beginners crash course. Seems obvious, but a good place to start is at the beginning! For those either starting out, or the others who are revisiting sewing and want to refamiliarise, this short course will find you creating pieced fabric blocks that cover all the main shape disciplines. We will tackle the fundamentals of quilting from piecing and simple quilt top design, through to binding and finishing.
An eclectic mix of traditional and contemporary, we can explore adaptations of the techniques to modernise things before all of this gets too grown up!
This course will be run over 4 or 5 consecutive 2.5 hour (ish) sessions at £50 per session.
All materials, fabrics and equipment at the sessions is provided.
Maximum 4 people per session.

Improvisational Sewing
I'm going to take what you thought you knew about sewing and change it up a little!
This is a fun session. Any previous sewing experience is useful, but certainly not essential as we won't be following many rules!
With a far more intuitive sewing approach, you will use a freeform style and simply enjoy the process, not perfection.
As your fabric piece comes together, you will be guided by its own path of discovery.
We will also quilt with a far freer style, and your finished piece will be one of unexpected pleasure and delight.
I often see this session as one of almost therapy, you can truly let go, and let rip! You will find yourself breaking down boundaries, using colour combinations you've never considered, and arriving at something very surprising and pleasing.
This course can be run over two consecutive 2.5/3 hour sessions at £50 per session, or a one day workshop from 11am till 4/5pm at £100.
All materials, fabrics and equipment at the sessions is provided.
Maximum 4 people per session

The Business of Colour
For those with some experience, or have done my Blockbuster course, The Business of Colour will develop your skills and extend your approach to colour consideration. We will be using simple overlapping colour blocks to create dimension, perspective and depth, and look into contrasting colour relationships to create that wow factor when two dimensions become three.
This course can be run over two consecutive 2.5/3 hour sessions at £50 per session, or a one day workshop from 11am till 4/5pm at £100.
All materials, fabrics and equipment at the sessions is provided.
Maximum 4 people per session
